One-Frame Films: The Photographic Works of Gregory Crewdson

Brooklyn based photographer Gregory Crewdson (b. 1962) approaches his photographs with the eye and mind of a filmmaker, constructing elaborate set pieces and directing fleets of models to create his evocative and extraordinarily detailed ‘one-frame films’. His filmic flair, a marriage the documentary style of William Eggleston and Walker Evans with the dream-like vision of filmmakers such as Stephen Spielberg and David Lynch, has taken him across the world, with his works being exhibited widely in the United States and Europe and included in many public collections, including The Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Brooklyn Museum and The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His awards include the Skowhegan Medal for Photography, the National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artists Fellowship, and the Aaron Siskind Fellowship.
